Have you ever wondered whether the reality you see through your own eyes is actually real? What if it’s just a dream that you are making up within your won imagination? What if you experience of the world is entirely subjective – or in other words taking place entirely within your own mind? What if everything that you experience is merely a simulated reality that does not really exist. A reality called the game of life.

When you look at the world as a subjective experience, you suddenly realize that everything and anything is possible in your world. You just need to figure out how. Subjective reality is nothing new and it has been explored in detail by many people already. What I’m going to do here is explore my own personal perspective on subjective reality and how I perceive the world through this exciting way of thinking.

Basically the subjective perspective of experiencing your life is a perspective where you believe that everything that happens to you is a simulation which is played entirely within your own mind. You are basically experiencing a reality that seems real in all kinds of ways, but it’s still merely a carefully crafted simulation played within your own mind. Just like a vivid dream. What if your life is merely the same type of experience as your dreams that you have at night, except that you never wake up from this daily “dream” until you die? I have the reason to believe this because every time I jump off buildings in my dreams I seem to wake up.

Even your perception of yourself in the mirror is a carefully crafted response of the reality to your internal image of yourself. So if there is something that you see in the mirror that you don’t like, it is because you have a conflict with yourself within your own mind – you can ‘easily’ fix this by altering your thoughts. From this perspective, the people you see around yourself and the problems you see in other people are actually manifestations of the same problems within yourself. Whatever you can imagine about another person is actually true within your reality. You can alter your ways of looking at reality and as you do that, your reality becomes different in terms of meaning you assign to the events within your life.

You are actually free to define how you choose to interpret this internal experience to yourself and by doing so you are able to alter the way you feel about the world around you. There are certain laws in this reality that you can’t change such as gravity, but there are also many things about this reality that you believe to be impossible which are actually possible if you simply believe that they are. For instance, Roger Banister disproved the belief that it was impossible to run a mile in four minutes when he completed the race in 1954.

You have the opportunity to be in complete control of your thinking. Psychologists call this state ‘internal locus of control’. It means that you feel completely in control over your life and whatever happens to you. This makes you feel calm and completely self-confident no matter what happens. Because there is always a solution to every challenge. After all, life is merely a dream if you look at it as a subjective experience.

A lot of friction experienced when you first decide to start building your own business is that you feel as though you are not good enough. Much like Neo at first did not believe that he could do what Morpheus did. “You have to believe Neo – you are the one.” and “Everybody falls the first time.” These quotations are completely valid and completely real when starting a business. We feel as though we are not good enough – which is probably true in the beginning – but don’t let that stop you because as you get better at what you are doing, you will be able to deliver better and better performance and eventually be able to feel really good about yourself. The trick is to start with a fake sense of self-esteem, develop your skills and attain the real sense of self-esteem.

Another benefit of thinking about the world in a subjective manner is that several things suddenly begin to make sense. For example, once you have adopted this idea of subjective reality, you realize that in order to improve your relationships with other people you simply need to work on developing better internal communication skills. Since reality becomes merely an internal simulation – all we really need to do when looking at improving our relationships from a subjective perspective is to improve the quality of our internal experience of life.

As you improve your internal cognitive skills, your external communication becomes a lot easier and you are able to communicate with people in a much more natural and relaxed manner. This allows you to converse with complete strangers almost as if you have been friends with them for ages. The people who are still using the objective model of reality will sometimes find this behavior on your part quite flattering because they are not used to having highly personal conversations with complete strangers like yourself.

There are many other interesting side effects of viewing your world from a subjective standpoint. You start looking at social interactions as merely experiments which involve affecting other people with your words and observing how they respond much like you would entertain ideas within your own mind. Sometimes people do not respond at all and that tells you that you need to get better at crafting your words so that the words you say actually produce the desired effect upon the person who interprets them. Think about it – what if you are actually completely alone in this world with all the people and events simply being a part of your own imagination?

The whole point of this post is to show you that there are different ways of looking at your reality and I think it has a lot of relevance to the way we think in our everyday lives. There is an objective point of view – where all people and events are separate from you. And there is a subjective one – where all people and events are part of you. The objective one makes you feel overwhelmed by circumstances, the subjective one makes you feel like the creator of your circumstances and gives you a sense of autonomy. Experiment with the perspectives and see which one works best for you.
